1<\/span> We\u2019ve now moved beyond the question of whether you take me for an idiot simply because I ask how you spend my money. Not only does the government take us for idiots, but it treats us like idiots too. The latest proof of this is the ten-day trip to America by a large state delegation led by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, with no one knowing exactly how many people went, who exactly went, or who exactly is accompanying them. And as for how much all this is costing Macedonian taxpayers\u2014well, that\u2019s a closely guarded state secret.<\/p>\n

The government\u2019s response is: “That\u2019s what Zaev used to do.” The ruling VMRO-DPMNE released a photo from 2019 showing all the passengers who accompanied then-Prime Minister Zoran Zaev to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.<\/p>\n

Exactly. That\u2019s precisely why Zaev is no longer in power. That is why you are in power. Tomorrow, someone else will come along and say: “That\u2019s what Mickoski used to do.” Is it really so difficult for any government to grasp that they must be accountable to us for everything related to their work, for every single denar we entrusted them to manage when we elected them?<\/p>\n

With responses like these, the government is addressing only its own loyal voter base. They\u2019ve given up on the rest of the citizens. Although, honestly, I think the stories they keep spinning about what the previous government did seven years ago no longer wash even with the ruling coalition’s most loyal supporters. They might possibly still work on the dregs within VMRO-DPMNE. The VMRO-affiliated elite no longer buys such explanations.<\/p>\n

However, this time, unlike seven years ago, the Macedonian state delegation had some very important meetings. Back then, they only went sightseeing. These new people, though, had plenty of work to do. Prime Minister Mickoski gave an interview to the Macedonian state news agency MIA from Washington. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bekim Sali gave an interview to MIA from New York. Minister of Finance Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska gave an interview to MIA from New York. How the Mayor of Chair, Izet Mexhiti, ended up in that company is another mystery, yet he too gave a statement to MIA in New York. What exactly did they have to tell the journalist from the domestic news agency MIA, who was also part of the delegation, there in New York and Washington, that they couldn\u2019t have said in Skopje? They seem to think that if they give an interview from Washington to a domestic agency for a domestic audience, without a single foreign media outlet, not even one from the region, taking any notice, then an excursion by dozens of state officials automatically makes sense because it looks like some major feat of statesmanship.<\/p>\n

The government really does take us for idiots.<\/p>\n

2<\/span> SDSM is pursuing an excellent personnel policy. A policy that benefits VMRO-DPMNE.<\/p>\n

Jon Frchkoski, a member of SDSM\u2019s leadership, challenged VMRO-DPMNE MP Mile Lefkov to take a drug test alongside him. SDSM certainly chose the right man to debate the government on the subject of drugs. Since he was filmed snorting a white substance at his desk in a state institution during working hours, the party is putting his expert experience to good use. He can tell exactly what kind of drugs someone is on.<\/p>\n

Andrej Zhernovski, who doesn’t know what the acronym NATO stands for, serves as SDSM\u2019s chief strategist for international policy.<\/p>\n

Goran Gerasimovski, Mayor of Centar, the municipality regarded as SDSM\u2019s stronghold, has become a new SDSM vice-president, although he shares VMRO-DPMNE\u2019s vision of destroying Mount Vodno and cramming every last corner of the municipality with small buildings of four or five storeys and two or three attic levels.<\/p>\n

With personnel policies like this, both SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE can feel free to keep taking us for idiots. Come election time, we\u2019ll count up exactly how many loyal and useful idiots each side has left.<\/p>\n

3<\/span> The Health Insurance Fund wants to involve the police in its plans to control abuses of sick leave. People won\u2019t be able to take sick leave so they can work in Croatia or go on holiday in Greece.<\/p>\n

After all, the Mayor of Karposh, whom they had only just elected, didn’t show up for work for over two months and delegated his signing authority to another civil servant appointed by the party. They even went so far as to have the Prime Minister explain that he was very ill and needed to rest, all while he was being photographed strolling through shopping centres. He had gone on sick leave so he wouldn\u2019t have to be mayor. Meanwhile, the other person the party found to handle the signing duties had taken unpaid leave from his job at another state agency just so he could serve as mayor.<\/p>\n

And the party calls the shots for both of them.<\/p>\n

The Law on Senior Management Service comes into effect on 1 October. Under this law, the Director of the Health Insurance Fund, Zlatko Perinski, would also be ineligible for the post because he wasn’t selected, didn’t undergo interviews or testing, and doesn\u2019t come from within the institution. But for him, the party is the institution.<\/p>\n

So, we have yet another law in the “Everything\u2019s according to the law, boss” series.<\/p>\n
