1<\/span>\u00a0The government says that only after announcing the full programme of the celebration marking the 35th<\/sup> anniversary of the country\u2019s declaration of independence will it reveal how much the performances by David Guetta and Jos\u00e9 Carreras will cost. Government spokesperson Marija Miteva says that there were certain contractual clauses that they can\u2019t talk about now.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease allow us to finish announcing all the events, and then we will inform you of all the details in a proper and dignified manner,\u201d Miteva said.<\/p>\n

The issue isn\u2019t whether the anniversary of independence should be celebrated. The issue isn\u2019t whether taxpayers\u2019 money should be used for the celebration. Of course it should. The issue isn\u2019t whether world-renowned stars should be invited. The issue isn\u2019t the quality of the programme.<\/p>\n

The issue is how much of our shared money you intend to spend. And on what basis someone made a decision to spend that money. How was the decision to bring in those particular stars made? Was there a committee, an organising board? Who was part of that committee? Was there an open call? Was a tender issued for an organiser or promoter, and if so, for how much? Is there a separate item in the Budget for the celebration? Does the Government also rely on money from socially responsible companies in organising the celebration, and if so, will it later reward that responsibility through tenders and public procurement contracts?<\/p>\n

But all these questions need to be answered before the money starts being spent. There is a law, they simply need to follow the procedures.<\/p>\n

Having a wedding means knowing how much money you\u2019re going to spend. How much the venue will cost, what music you\u2019ll choose, how much you\u2019ll pay for it, how much you\u2019ll pay for the guests\u2019 meals\u2026 As the Government describes it, however, this sounds more like a wedding with an open tab. We don\u2019t know how much it will cost. Someone else is picking up the bill. Spend as much as you like, and we\u2019ll tell you the total afterwards.<\/p>\n

Why should they tell us how they\u2019re spending our money in the first place? The Minister of Finance doesn\u2019t even appear before Parliament to explain to MPs why the state is borrowing 260 million euros, yet we expect them to tell us how much money they\u2019ll spend on throwing us a party. After all, we\u2019re just ordinary voters.<\/p>\n

How much money they\u2019ll spend is none of your business when the Government has already told you it\u2019s organising a world-class party. You\u2019re just a peasant who doesn\u2019t even know who David Guetta and Jos\u00e9 Carreras are. A rodent from the dregs of society, incapable of rejoicing in the Government\u2019s many successes, being third and fifth in Europe for GDP growth, and overtaking the frontrunners, Montenegro and Albania, on our path to the EU. A traitor who refuses to rejoice in the 35th<\/sup> anniversary of the declaration of independence.<\/p>\n

And all you did was ask the most ordinary of questions: How and how much of my money are you going to spend on my celebration?<\/p>\n

2<\/span> Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said that we\u2019ll wait for better times to start negotiations with the EU and that \u201cwhatever the price we have to pay, this government is ready to pay it\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister\u2019s fellow party members who hold Bulgarian passports have already paid. In Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Sofia, wherever they had to go to prove they were Bulgarians. They didn\u2019t wait for better times. The Prime Minister will wait for better times to start negotiations with the EU, although his government includes ministers with two or three backup citizenships, because they clearly didn\u2019t feel like waiting.<\/p>\n

And when it comes to paying, the government doesn\u2019t actually pay anything. We, the citizens, pay the price of not being in the EU. I would even say that the fact we\u2019ve been paying for more than twenty years, ever since we were granted EU candidate status, isn\u2019t the main problem. The problem is that there\u2019s no end in sight to when we\u2019ll stop paying that price.<\/p>\n

Even that uncertainty doesn\u2019t make me particularly angry. We\u2019re used to waiting. Do you know what actually makes me furious, far more than Bulgaria\u2019s hostile attitude towards the denial of the Macedonian language and of the existence of the Macedonian people? Being lectured about patriotism and the Macedonian essence by the very people who\u2019ve obtained Bulgarian passports. What would they care about our future in the EU? They\u2019ve already secured their own.<\/p>\n3<\/span>\n

Deputy Prime Minister for Good Governance Arben Fetai, who hasn\u2019t shown up for work for more than two months, is using all the benefits of good governance. It turns out he was assigned official security. Responding to a parliamentary question, Minister of Internal Affairs Panche Toshkovski said that he didn\u2019t know whether the Deputy Prime Minister was still using official security because \u201che doesn\u2019t keep daily records\u201d. Fetai was last seen in a photograph from Bangkok. They didn\u2019t send some of our police officers to look after him there as well, did they? In case someone decided to beat him up in Thailand.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Mickoski doesn\u2019t know whether Fetai has been paid a salary over the last two months, despite not coming to work.<\/p>\n

Minister of Finance Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska says she doesn\u2019t handle the payroll.<\/p>\n

Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Antonio Miloshoski said that Fetai hadn\u2019t informed him whether he\u2019d attend the parliamentary questions session.<\/p>\n

Minister of Internal Affairs Panche Toshkovski says he doesn\u2019t keep daily records of the police officers assigned to protect Fetai.<\/p>\n

The government would say: Transparency will remain exactly as it has been so far. Proper and dignified.<\/p>\n
